This Thursday the Future Party will be discussing the North Sydney by-election. Joe Hockey will be resigning from parliament. His seat will become vacant and there will be a by-election. The Future Party is intending to run in this election. Come along on Thursday night to discuss strategy and campaign ideas.

The Science Party will overturn this costly, risky, intrusive and poorly-supported legislation.
Today is the day that all Australians give up their privacy. Records will be kept of all websites you visit, and all communications you have with others. We are entering a period like no other: where any misstep made will be recorded, and the government and staff members of various government bodies will have access to this information without requiring a warrant from a judge.

The metadata retention scheme comes into effect on the 13th of October, which will see records of all your Internet-based activity recorded for two years.

The Solution to Domestic Violence is not Traditional Gender Roles

OPINION
The Liberal party's recent announcement about domestic violence funding was led by Malcolm Turnbull arguing strongly for respecting women. I couldn't help but feel that the arguments made were very traditionalist and gender role enforcing. On last week’s QandA we saw the worst of this opinion. Barnaby Joyce argued that we should return to days of old where men should open doors for women. I believe that this opinion ignores the causes of domestic violence and the history of domestic violence that extends far into the past.

Marriage Amendment Act - Repeal Watch

Prior to 2004, the marriage act didn't specifically state that marriage could only be between a man and a woman. The Marriage Amendment Act 2004 explicitly defined marriage in Australia as being between one man and one woman, as opposed to the previous definition, "between two people". The amendment also prescribes that same-sex marriages solemnised overseas will not be recognised by Australian law. The Science Party will repeal this explicitly discriminatory piece of legislation.

The Greens are trying to destroy minor parties

The Greens are the leaders in the push to change electoral law. Today they took to Facebook advertising their article advocating electoral reform. They say their aim is to remove the Group Voting ticket (GVT) to make preferences more transparent. The talk of improving democracy hides a desire, on government record, to prevent the success of minor parties.

With the election of Malcolm Turnbull to the leader of the Liberal Party, it is important to remember what type of politician he is. Despite the fact that he openly mocked the ability of a metadata retention scheme to foil serious criminal activity, he still voted for this democracy harming legislation. He also voted to create laws that could gaol journalists for reporting on special intelligence operations.He gave up his principles to vote for metadata legislation he knew wouldn't work, was bad for the rights of Australians and would harm Australian democracy. He'd do anything for this job, including destroy Australian democracy.

Congratulations Australia - Early Success Against Border Force

Australians online and in the streets have destroyed the governments intention to have Border Force patrol the streets asking people "randomly" about their visa status. It took only a few hours for this weekend's operation to be cancelled, but it is far from over. We need to keep the pressure on to make sure this never, ever happens in Australia.
