Andrea Leong

Dr Andrea Leong worked at NSW Health as part of the COVID-19 Public Health Response Branch, having started the pandemic testing nasal swabs in the lab at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. Prior to 2020, she worked in microbiome research with a biotech company after completing a PhD on antibacterial surface coatings at UNSW and the Brien Holden Vision Institute in 2016.

Andrea was first drawn to the Science Party's commitment to rights-based, evidence-backed regulation of emerging technology, and has been proud to contribute to the development of a broad platform that promotes the wellbeing of people alongside environmental repair.

After joining the party executive in 2015, Andrea contested the seat of Kingsford Smith at the 2016 federal election, the 2018 Wentworth by-election, and the Senate at the 2019 election.

You can often find Andrea banging a drum at protests and in the percussion section of local wind bands at community events.
